Climate change is a very debated issue in the world right now. As we are burning fossil fuels and dumping our waste in landfills, the hole that currently sits in the ozone layer is growing bigger and bigger.

careers in design,I believe, can help many people. There is a great opportunity to take this concept of design to an entirely new level; not only to incorporate immediate benefits for a wide range of people, but also to take into account the long-term preservation of our Earth. A way to help design and construct sustainable, eco-friendly structures that are both fashionable and functional. A way to merge design and composition of the daily necessities in life eco-consciously.

I watched a video on global warming and realized global warming is a lot more important than we realize.

Nuclear energy technology is a serious issue, as it creates the most dangerous biproduct of any energy method. Additionally, storing the waste is actually a waste, as it can be reused in a Thorium reactor, and it's radioactive time reduced from millions of years to 500. In addition to being able to both use and destroy Uranium waste simultaneously, it is also cheaper, more abundant, and produces more energy. It has no risk of melting down and cannot be used in nuclear weaponry either.

There are tons of homes in the area that I live in that, with minimal work, could be beautiful and in good condition. Instead, these houses are neglected.

"I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security. Defense of our resources is just as important as defense abroad. Otherwise what is there to defend?" — Robert Redford , actor, at Yosemite National Park dedication, 1985

Harmful algal that can cause debilitating and fatal problems in humans are rabidly blooming, and people need to be aware of it to stop the potential spread of a very poisonous plant. The most well known HAB is the "red tide" that sweeps FLorida's Gulf Coast almost every year, and this can be prevented quite a bit better than it already is.

Many American citizens are sitting on the streets every day, while the rest of us walk by without truly caring. Americans love spending money and buying things we don't need, and don't even care for our brothers and sisters with no homes, let alone food to put on the table. We look away when they beg for change, and feel that their presence in public places is ghastly and unnecessary. We want them out of our parks and bridges, but why don't we help them?

Our planet is in trouble! Almost every day we discover another problem affecting our world today, we have pollution, acid rain, and how could we forget the destruction of wild rain forests. Rainforests are being cut down to make way for 'civilized man', to grow crops and graze cattle, and provide timber. Chemical waste from factories and sewage works, and artificial fertilizers from farmland, pollutes river water, killing wildlife and spreading disease. We could never buy products that were made up of tropical hardwood to help the rainforest. Or we could try to buy environmentally-friendly products to decrease the pollution. The careless litter is not only unsightly but dangerous too.
